AV40 is awesome but AV30 mkII is NOT!
I own and love the original AV40's. Just purchased a pair of AV30 MKII's from Amazon and they are going right back. Sound is hideous - hollow and muffled with "one note" bass. What is going on? Is the AV30 that much of a step below the AV40, OR, is the "MKII" a cheapened version of the original?
I cannot over-emphasize the difference. AV40's are almost a steal for the sound quality - detailed, musical, well balanced. The AV30 MKII were so bad I'd rather hear silence. Que pasa?
One fear I have is that M-Audio may be transitioning to class D amps prematurely (before the technology is ready).
Also I wonder how many of the positive reviews are for the original version rather than mkII.
Please chime in owners of AV30, AV40, original or MKII.

Impressive little set for the money!
The M-Audio AV30 MKII's are a very nice little set for the money. No, these may not compete head to head with top of the line systems that cost substantially more, but they are among the nicest I've encountered in the sub-$100 price range.
Weight - The first thing you will notice when taking these out of the box is the substantial weight.
Shielded - They are shielded for use around computers/electronics.
Small Footprint - While a tad larger than some, these still take up relatively minimal space on a desk. Comparable to small book shelf speakers in size.
Aux Jack - For those wishing to plug in their mp3 or other devices, these include a handy front accessible jack.
Comes Complete - Includes everything needed to get started...wires, buffer pad that attaches to the bottom (optional) for stability etc... Took less than 10 minutes to remove from box and begin listening.
Sound
Volume- Now, for the sound. These are...
Not good speakers.
I bought the M-audio AV30 MKII powered monitors, and I really would like to save other people from making the same mistake, for so many reasons. The sound quality wasn't great to begin with, but it was alright. The bass seemed like it was really lacking in most songs. Any song that was really fast or had fast drums sounded muddy. Honestly they are about as good as the factory speakers that came with my desktop, maybe they were a LITTLE bit clearer, but not so much so that they were worth spending $90 on. The clarity noticeably decreases as you increase the volume past a certain point (I don't mean SUPER loud either). I've had these speakers for less than 2 months and they've already broken. It started with a crackling in the left speaker, and now the right speaker produces no sound. The support team for M-Audio is a total joke, and I can gaurantee they will NEVER respond to you via email, other than their automated emails. After buying from them you have a small window of time, I...
